It has been less than three years since my husband and I acquired this wonderful 17th century estate on top of a hill in Northern Burgundy. St Vincent de Paul, Ninon de L’Enclos and, more recently Julia Child, a close friend of the previous owner, Anne Willan, the author of more than 20 books on French cuisine, resided in the château.
With our daughter Jessica, a Yale-trained architect in charge of both the renovations and of our annual Arts festival, we thrive to bring back the château to its former splendor and make it a beacon of culinary, visual and performing arts.
Over the last three years, driven by passion and a certain dose of folly, we renovated the entire château and its dependences, which count more than 20 bedrooms and bathrooms and we upgraded the swimming pool. We replanted a 2-acre vegetable orchard which brings us seasonal vegetables year-around, and we found ourselves lucky when we realized that a trove of truffles was secretly hiding under our nut trees.
Recently, we undertook the renovation of our dovecote, a 350-year old structure, which requires the work of master craftsmen who specialize in the use of ancient construction techniques. To support this effort and share our passion for this project, we welcome friends and friends of friends to join us for a sumptuous Thanksgiving weekend!
Join us for a traditional Thanksgiving in France, a gourmet dinner inspired by local ingredients prepared by our skilled chef.
Guests will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities at their leisure at the château, stroll in our private park, visit our orchard, hunt for truffles with our dogs or hike in the forest nearby.
For those interested to visit the region, the nearby city of Joigny is incredibly charming. A bit further away, Sens, Auxerre, Chablis and Vezelay are world famous gems.
Northern Burgundy is also well known for its gourmet restaurants, most notably: – La Côte Saint Jacques 2 Michelin stars (10-minute drive) – La Madeleine in Sens 1 Michelin star – Au Fil du Zinc in Chablis, working on their Michelin star for 2020 Reservations need to be made at least one month in advance.
Guests are invited to join us for Thanksgiving in France from Thursday mid-day till Sunday afternoon. The Prices vary from 500 euros for The Cottage Room to 1500 euros for the Grand Suite that sleeps up to 5 people. This includes the Thanksgiving dinner, wines, and daily breakfast.
