New albums : Melody Gardot & Thomas Dutronc

Melody Gardot will be releasing a new album on October 23rd : “Sunset in the Blue” and has also just released a new song  called “Little Something” with Sting! A lovely pop/electro duet… a different style for Melody!
For those who don’t know her yet, Melody Gardot is an American jazz singer who has been influenced by blues and jazz artists such as Judy Garland, Janis Joplin, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Stan Getz and George Gershwin as well as Latin music artists such as Caetano Veloso. She has also been nominated for a Grammy Award!

She was in other musical the headlines recently. She wanted to send a strong message that art and love will always break through, even during hard times. She decided to put together a collaborative video clip that featured submissions from musicians all over the world to create a new piece of music called “From Paris with Love”. Created in isolation and made with love, this project was a reflection of the strength of the human spirit.  A great way to connect people despite distance and confinement.

Together with Decca Records, all proceeds from the royalties of this song have been donated to a COVID charity organization to help healthcare workers during this time of unprecedented crisis.

Don’t miss her new album that is a celebration of her jazz roots. Out on 23d of October with Decca Records.

In the same vein, Thomas Dutronc released a new album this June called “Frenchy”. Most French people are familiar with Thomas Dutronc but for those who don’t know him well, he is the son of two very famous French artists : Jacques Dutronc and Françoise Hardy. His passion for the guitar comes from his iconic parents. He wanted to become a photographer at first, but it was music that stole his heart in the long run and more specifically his idol, Django Reindhart. All his previous releases are strongly influenced by gypsy jazz.

He came back this summer with a very different album. He decided to bring together 14 French songs, some very old and some others a lot more recent. Accompanied by his quartet and international artists such as Iggy Pop, Jeff Goldblum, Diana Krall and many others, Dutronc honored the work of the great French songwriters whose melodies have toured the world from Charles Trenet to Edith Piaf (and even Daft Punk!).

Is is the perfect album to listen to during the terrible crisis we are experiencing as it is so refreshing, full of life and easy to listen to. Thomas’ voice is soft and lovely and the guests are fantastic. It simply brings a lot of joy and it is nice to listen to great French songs that foreigners or younger people may discover for the first time! My favorite track is “La Belle Vie / The Good Life” with Jeff Goldblum as just puts a big smile on your face!
