How to listen to English radio in Paris
The only radio station in Paris licensed to broadcast in English is celebrating its first birthday, with plans to grow its coverage area further this autumn.
World Radio Paris targets expats and local English-speakers with a mix of local and international radio shows – all in English. So if you’re pining for the latest world news from the BBC, or your favourite shows from NPR, then give WRP a listen.
The station also has a wide range of local features – including the latest city news, What’s On guides, culture, arts, practical information and interviews with the people that make Paris what it is.
There’s also daily news from the English service at RFI (Radio France Internationale) every morning at 7am.
The station is a non-commercial community-focused operation, with more than 30 volunteers spanning 12 different nationalities.
World Radio Paris is available 24/7 on DAB+ digital radio, so you can enjoy English radio in your car, public transport, at work, at home or in the park – without needing wi-fi or eating up your mobile data.
What is DAB+ digital radio?
It’s like the radio you already know and love, but better! Instead of tuning to a number on the FM dial, you’ll find WRP in an alphabetical list by name.
There’s no old-fashioned radio hissing or crackling. No stop-start internet buffering, no drain on your mobile battery. Just switch on and enjoy!
Receivers start from as little as €40 – and they all come with FM as well for even more choice. Darty, Fnac and Amazon have a good range – see this page on the WRP site for links to some popular devices.
Some digital radios also let you pause, rewind and record live radio, and set up reminders for a favourite programme, a bit like the programme guide on many TVs.
DAB+ is becoming the new Europe-wide standard for radio. A new digital radio will also work in Denmark, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and the UK among others.
Many new cars sold in Europe now have DAB+ installed as standard. Ask your garage/dealer for assistance about yours. If your car doesn’t have DAB+ as standard, you can still get a ‘bolt-on’ radio kit, without having to change your current in-car set-up.
And if there’s a family birthday or colleague’s leaving do coming up, why not give the gift of radio so they too can enjoy English Radio in Paris?
